Got a bunch of new stuff so ill just jump right in. The year started with a bang, The Journey Collective played at The Sapphire Hotel on Hawthorne for New Year’s Day and the place was packed. There where waits of up to an hour for a table. The staff and owners at The Sapphire were so great that they had a cancellation for the 29th of this month and we have been asked back for a return engagement. Check the poster for details.

As for little old me, I recently joined La Tropikana, a 10 piece salsa orchestra led by Medler Studios. It features Julana Torres on vocals and you can see me do my conga/vocal act for a couple of hrs while you dance your butt off! We are playing our first show of the year at The Conga Club at MLK and NE ALBERTA. Roger Rumba the owner of the club is hosting us and we are really exited about playing some hot tunes for people. Those of you who saw me perform in Cubaneo before will be able to check out some old tunes from that band as well as new arrangements provided by the Medler Studios for this band. We start at 10 on Saturday……Today!!!!!!!

Also my piano player Jesse Feinstein will be having his Junior Level Recital on Tuesday January 31st in Lincoln Hall 3rd floor at Portland State University.

And lastly  The Hutchinsons, the group that Jesse Stern and I are in at Portland State University will be opening for Dan Balmer and George Colligan at Jimmy Maks on Monday February 6th at 6:30 PM. This group features some of the best players at the school Kory Randall on Guitar, Will Gibbs on Bass and leading the group fresh from a recent tour of lower Siberia with Darrell Grant, Charley Gray, Marilyn Keller and Alan Jones, Mr Marc Hutchinson! Hence The Hutchinsons. Come check out any or all of these shows and I promise you will not be disappointed!

thanks and take care,

Mario Sandoval
